Yes - but let me explain! I use a series of vintage slipcasting molds to create my chess pieces. They are poured, released, & refined by hand. When the pieces are initially released from the molds, they need lots of work. I carefully carve away seam lines and imperfections using various hand tools. The pieces are then dried then loaded into the kiln for the bisque firing. Each piece is then glazed (by hand) using 2-4 coats. They head to the kiln for their last firing, get one final inspection (for perfection!) and then are finished off with baize on the bottom. The bottom of each piece is padded with baize so they glide smoothly on any board! After extensive research, I decided baize was the best material for my chess sets. Baize is a woven fabric made from wool or a blend (higher wool content = better quality baize, so I use a 95% wool blend imported from the UK). Biaze is superior to felt on many levels, including strength, density, and longevity. Whether you play chess daily or once in a blue moon, the baize bases of these chess pieces are designed to last. In comparison, most felts are cheaply made and pill easily.
